Dog visits

Thank you for your interest! We treat all types of dogs, from puppies to giant senior dogs who cannot get into a car.
Our fee for travel and physical exam depends a little bit on where you live. The general Belleville/O’Fallon/Collinsville area is $120 for travel, physical exam, and a nail trim is included, as long as it is not too stressful. 🙂 Additional pets in the same visit are $54 each for physical exam and optional nail trim. This applies to the 2nd and 3rd pet. From the fourth pet on, it goes to half price, and is $27 per pet.
For vaccines, we recommend 3-year shots whenever possible. The 3-year and 1-year vaccines are the same vaccine, so we don’t want to over-vaccinate if it is not needed. Both the rabies and the distemper (DHPP) are available in 1-year and 3-year versions, and are $20 each for 1-year and $36 each for 3-year. Once we talk about the vaccines your dog has had, and when, we can decide which shots are best. Depending on lifestyle, some dogs also are vaccinated for leptospirosis, which is only available as a 1-year vaccine. (here’s the scoop on lepto).
If your dog goes to doggy day care or boarding, then Bordatella (kennel cough) and/or influenza (dog flu) may be required by the facility. These are only available as 1-year shots. The bordatella is $24 and the flu vaccine that covers both strains is $29. If your dog does not venture to places with lots of other dogs, these vaccines are not needed.
A heartworm test is $35, and ideally is done annually. We draw a drop of blood and have results in 5 minutes. It’s also a good idea to do a fecal test for intestinal parasites ($29). In households with multiple pets, we’ll often get one or two poop samples as “representative” samples as we might not know whom they are from, and will treat everyone if we find something.
We carry two kinds of heartworm preventative: Sentinel and Tri-Heart (a generic version of Heartgard). We also carry Bravecto, an oral pill that kills fleas and ticks for 3 months. If you prefer a different product for either heartworm, or flea/tick, we can easily order it for you.
For our senior dogs, we are less concerned about vaccines and more about wellness, managing pain, and maintaining mobility. Often we recommend running a blood panel to check for anemia, check the liver, kidneys, electrolytes, etc. These range from $89-$125 depending on panel (our most popular one is $98).
